The Heterotopia Techno Club is a place for escapism and immersive experiences - a free space for hedonism, ecstasy, reflection and finding identity. Here, people dive into a reality that has nothing to do with the outside world and everyday life for days on end in order to reinvent themselves. This work focuses on the design and interactions of the escapist techno club and analyses the role of the club in society. Don't we all need a valve, an action in which we can replenish our energy, get inspired or just switch off?
The practical part is a performance art in public and everyday space: the elevator. As the moment of surprise it takes the elevator passengers out of their everyday life and stimulates all their senses (taste, smell, vision, hearing and the sense of touch) synchronously to the appropriate atmosphere to generate a synaesthetic, immersive and escapist experience. In the installation, the club atmosphere is to be taken out of its economic context and brought into a cultural discourse that questions the general function of escapism in society and, in particular, makes a positive, artistic contribution to club culture.
